The Purpose of this Site:
1. The immediate occasion for launching this site was to make available, following the Scots Legal History Conference in October 2001, the file entitled "Some Reflections on Trust Purposes in Scots Law". The paper inter alia discusses comparatively and historically the use of "equity" in Scots and English law, and also the relevance to Scots law of Lord Kames' Principles of Equity. It was thus relevant to a paper presented at the Conference by Mr. Scott Dickson on Lord Kames' volume.
2. Over the years, the author has accumulated on disk a body of some of his writings when active, mostly unpublished. Some of these have become topical again, and it seemed of interest to include them also here. There are other papers which can be added if the site turns out to be of any interest.
3. The author welcomes sensible comment and discussion and also any contributions to the website which might widen its value and interest.
| 4. Copyright: Copyright in the
articles included is reserved by the author. Some of the articles contained
material which may be under the copyright of others when published - that
material has been omitted unless permission has been obtained.
5. The papers are presented primarily
in HTML format but also in RTF and PDF formats; the last requires Adobe
Acrobat Reader and users are reminded that they take longer to download than
the others.
